Trek launches new full-suspension e-bike with impressive 105 km of range

Trek has launched its latest generation electric mountain bike, the Rail+ 9.8 Gen 5, in Europe. The company’s new eMTB features very similar specs and design to the recently launched Allant+ FS SUV-style e-bike. Speaking of the frame, the electric bike features an OCLV Mountain carbon frame, which is capable of handling a payload of up to 300 lbs (136 kg). 

The Rail+ 9.8 Gen 5 is equipped with Bosch’s Performance Line CX mid-drive motor, which is said to offer 750 W of peak power and 85 Nm of torque. The torque of the motor can be tuned all the way up to 120 Nm using the Bosch eBike Flow app. As for speed, the motor provides a top speed of 20 mph (32 km/h). This is the same motor that powers Trek's newly released Allant+ FS e-bike, for context. 

Power comes from Boshc’s PowerTube 800 Wh battery pack, and Trek claims the eMTB offers 105 km (65 miles) of range on a single charge in eco mode. Furthermore, the company has paired the e-bike with a 12-speed wireless Shimano XT Di2 drivetrain with manual shifting. A 29" front and 27.5 x 2.6” rear Maxxis tires complement the carbon frame, and stopping power comes from Shimano XT 4-piston brakes. The full-suspension e-bike boasts a Fox 38 fork with 160 mm of travel. 

Accessories include fenders, a kickstand, a bell, a rack, a tailight, and a headlight. Thanks to Bluetooth connectivity, you can view real-time speed, distance, and battery level information directly on your smartphone. Alternatively, you can check all of this data through a built-in Bosch Kiox 400C display. 

Available in S, M, L, and XL sizes, the Trek Rail+ 9.8 Gen 5 is priced at €7,749. Buyers can purchase the eMTB directly from Trek’s official website.
