Official: New Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 GPU launches with 12 GB GDDR7 VRAM
The fact that a new version of the GeForce RTX 5070 laptop GPU is coming has been known for a while. Publicly, Nvidia remained quiet about updating its laptop GPU roster. However, OEMs like Lenovo and MSI have been mentioning the existence of the 'GeForce RTX 5070 12GB' since March before swiftly erasing any reference to it.
As April draws to a close, Nvidia has now officially confirmed that a 'GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU 12GB configuration' exists and is coming. Inexplicably, the company has announced a new GPU SKU within a GeForce Game Ready Driver update, rather than in its own right. The full quote from Nvidia is as follows:
Demand for GeForce RTX GPUs remains strong, and memory supply is constrained. In order to maximize memory availability, we are releasing the GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU 12GB configuration with 24Gb G7 memory. This gives our partners access to an additional pool of memory to complement the 16Gb G7 supply that currently ships with most GeForce GPUs. The 12GB configuration will exist alongside the current 8GB configuration, and allows our partners to bring a broader range of GeForce RTX 5070 laptops to consumers.
In other words, the new RTX 5070 will ship with 3 GB GDDR7 memory modules rather than the 2 GB alternatives used on the existing RTX 5070. Unfortunately, Nvidia has not shared full hardware specifications yet. Also, XMG warns that the new RTX 5070 could cost almost as much as the RTX 5070 Ti that we have reviewed in gaming laptops like the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16S (curr. $1,899 on Amazon).
The company adds that RTX 5070 12 GB SKUs should start shipping around June 2026, with the Apex 16 Max and Apex 17 set to receive Nvidia's new GPU. Previously, MSI had confirmed that the Crosshair 16 Max EX E2WGXK will launch with the RTX 5070 12 GB, as has Lenovo with the Legion Pro 5 16ADR10, Legion Pro 5 16IRX10, LOQ 15IRX10 and LOQ 17IRX10.
