A few days have now passed since MSI unveiled the Claw 8 AI+, its second gaming handheld that it revealed alongside a Fallout Special Edition version of the existing Claw A1M (curr. $599 on Amazon). For some reason, the company elected against showing what the former looked like in its press materials. However, it subsequently exhibited the Claw 8 AI+ at Computex 2024 in Taipei, albeit behind glass.
Additionally, Cliff Chun, System Product Management Director at MSI, shared more information about the same device in an interview with PC World. Embedded below, Chun confirmed that the Claw 8 AI+ would operate at the same 1080p native resolution as the Claw A1M, despite moving up to an 8-inch display. For context, the company already stated that the display would support variable refresh rate (VRR) technology with a 120 Hz peak refresh rate.
Moreover, Chun reiterated the Claw 8 AI+ would feature an 80 Wh battery. With that being said, he implied that while the US will only receive 80 Wh versions of the device, MSI may sell the Claw 8 AI+ with multiple battery configurations in other markets. On top of that, the Claw 8 AI+ will benefit from a repositioned M.2 2230 SSD slot that will be easier to access, as well as new bumper buttons and improved hall effect joysticks.
Allegedly, the Claw 8 AI+ will only be a 'tad heavier' than the Claw A1M too, even with its larger dimensions and increased battery capacity. Furthermore, Chun claimed that MSI intended to offer the new 8-inch model at a similar price point to the current Claw A1M, which retails for up to $749 with an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor. Unfortunately, MSI has not hinted at a release date for the Claw 8 AI+ yet.
