To outperform the competition, MSI combines a brand new Intel Lunar Lake chip with a gigantic 80 Wh battery and two Thunderbolt 4 ports in the new Claw 8 AI+. This allows MSI to compete directly with the latest Asus ROG Ally X.

After today's Intel Lunar Lake official announcement, MSI presents the successor to the MSI Claw (approx. 760 euros on Amazon), which switches from Meteor Lake-H to Lunar Lake. There are only a few details so far, MSI has not yet published a picture of the new handheld or any information on the price and launch date, although more information is expected to be confirmed over the next few days at Computex.

However, Lunar Lake should enable 50 percent better gaming performance than Meteor Lake-H thanks to the Xe2 iGPU, allowing the MSI Claw 8 AI+ to outperform competitors such as the brand new Asus ROG Ally X based on the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme in terms of gaming performance. Even apart from the performance, MSI is emulating the ROG Ally X, as the Claw 8 AI+ also relies on a significantly larger 80 Wh battery and two USB-C ports, both supporting Thunderbolt 4. MSI supplies the gaming handheld with a more compact charger, giving the device improved LB/RB buttons.

The screen diagonal increases to 8 inches, but MSI continues to install a 120 Hz panel with support for VRR. At the same time, MSI announces another new version of the Claw, namely a Fallout Limited Edition, which is still based on the first-generation Claw with Intel Meteor Lake-H. Curiously, apart from the Pip-Boy-inspired design, the manufacturer also advertises the "biggest battery in the industry" - so the Fallout Edition may also receive upgrades apart from the design.
