Lenovo releases new 15-inch laptop with almost 80% longer battery life than AMD models

Lenovo has just started shipping the IdeaPad Vibe 15Q8X12 globally as a new ARM-based alternative to the MacBook Air 15 (curr. $1,349 on Amazon). One of three 15-inch IdeaPad Vibe laptops released earlier this month, the IdeaPad Vibe 15Q8X12 departs from its siblings with its reliance on Qualcomm's Snapdragon X1 X1P-26-100 chipset.
By contrast, the IdeaPad Vibe 15AGP12 and IdeaPad Vibe 15AKP12 feature AMD Gorgon Point and AMD Krackan Point 2 processors, respectively. Currently, all three laptops feature 50 Wh batteries. However, the IdeaPad Vibe 15AGP12 and IdeaPad Vibe 15AKP12 should eventually be configurable with 65 Wh batteries, too.
Nonetheless, Lenovo has revealed that the IdeaPad Vibe 15Q8X12 lasts significantly longer than its AMD counterparts in official battery life tests, even with a 23% smaller battery. For context, the company reports that the IdeaPad Vibe 15AGP12 and IdeaPad Vibe 15AKP12 return 16.8-hour runtimes when playing locally stored 1080p videos at 150 nits, or 21.9-hour runtimes with 65 Wh batteries.
Meanwhile, the IdeaPad Vibe 15Q8X12 boasts 30 hours of battery life in the same tests. In other words, Lenovo's Snapdragon-based laptop delivers 78% longer battery life than its AMD contemporaries with identical battery capacities.
Even when AMD models with 65 Wh batteries become available, the IdeaPad Vibe 15Q8X12 will still enjoy a 37% lead in the same battery life test. Please see Lenovo's website and our launch article for more details about the IdeaPad Vibe 15Q8X12.
