With its secure-close latches, reinforced corners and spring-loaded handles, the ICECO APL35 could be mistaken for a basic aluminum storage box on picking it up. However, open the safety-focused lid designed to hold angles from 45 to 110 degrees, and it is revealed as a particularly cutting-edge fridge-freezer.
The APL35 is far lighter than the average appliance, however, at just ~14.5 kilograms (kg, or 32lb), compared to 23kg (50.7lb) in the equally travel-friendly EcoFlow Glacier and 24kg (52.9lb) in BLUETTI's Multicooler Portable Fridge. Nevertheless, it is rated to support a superior -4 to 68° Fahrenheit (~-20 to 20° Celsius (C)) internal temperature range.
ICECO also indicates that the APL35 can hold at least as much food in its 27 liter (l) chiller and and 8l freezer compartments, as they rely on ice-independent SECOP Nano Compressor technology to function - then again, the Glacier might have the edge there in some situations, as it can also, of course, make ice.
The APL35 is also compatible with some solar panels, albeit without the swappable battery system of its BLUETTI competitor. Like many Of its rivals, it is also touted to support USB-C charging, remote control via its own app and quiet (~32 decibel (dB)) operation.
The ICECO APL35 is now available to order as a backer reward on Indiegogo from $509 at the time of writing. It will only ship to the US and Canada, however, with a projected shipping date of July 2024.
