More details about what appears to be Anbernic's next gaming handheld have leaked online, again courtesy of a video posted on Bilibili. To recap, Anbernic was rumoured to have prepared the RG40XX as an RG Cube follow-up, which it released at the start of the month. Additionally, while the RG40XX resembled the RG Cube, it was expected to carry over the display from the older RG405M (curr. $189.99 on Amazon).
For context, the RG405M has a vertical display that Anbernic flips 90 degrees using software. Although this is fine in theory, a vertical display set landscape mode can result in juddery looking images in 2D games. Based on new rumours, Anbernic will actually equip its next 4-inch gaming handheld with a native landscape display. However, Anbernic release not the device as the RG40XX.
Instead, a picture showing the device's back panel confirms that the device will arrive as the RG40XX H. Evidently, Anbernic has equipped the RG40XX H with a 3,200 mAh battery too, along with stacked shoulder buttons. While a release date remains unknown for now, the RG40XX H is also anticipated to feature an Allwinner H700 chipset just like its RG35XX counterparts.
