macOS 27.2: Siri AI learns five new languages, but German is still missing

Apple released macOS Golden Gate 27.2 on Monday evening, alongside watchOS, tvOS and visionOS 27.2 and new HomePod software. The headline change concerns Siri AI: according to the update notes quoted by MacRumors, the new assistant now speaks French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish in addition to English. That is a big step for users in France, Spain, Portugal or Belgium – but the EU restriction remains in place, and other languages such as German or Italian are still missing.
In the EU, the new Siri has been limited to the Mac and Vision Pro since the launch of the 27 generation, with Apple explicitly excluding iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. Even on the Mac, there is a condition: the system has to be set to a supported language. Until now that meant English, from today French or Spanish work too. Apple has not given a timeline for further languages.
What else macOS 27.2 brings
Siri AI is now supposed to remember useful context from earlier conversations and draw on more personal data. Messages shows suggestions that let users create a calendar event or a reminder directly from a chat. Apple has also reworked the brightness and volume sliders: according to AppleInsider, they now move in small, visible steps when adjusted via the keyboard instead of gliding smoothly. Bug fixes and security updates round things off. On Monday evening, Apple's support pages did not yet list version 27.2, and the security notes were missing as well.
AppleInsider also claims to have spotted early touch tools in apps such as Safari and Photos, which Apple itself doesn't mention. That fits expectations for the MacBook with an OLED touchscreen Apple is expected to unveil on Wednesday – macOS 27.2 is likely to be the version new Macs ship with.
Apple Watch: same Siri, same EU block
watchOS 27.2 brings the Siri improvements, including the five new languages, to the Apple Watch, along with faster responses. The update notes are just as clear, however, that Siri AI is not available in the EU or mainland China. iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 had not been released by Monday evening, even though developers have had the release candidate since October 19. For iPhone users in the EU, that wouldn't change much anyway – according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, a launch there is realistic in 2027 at the earliest.
For Mac users, 27.2 is a solid maintenance update with nicer sliders. And for anyone in Europe who wants to try the new Siri, the choice of languages to switch the Mac to has just grown a little.
