Honor will claim the title of releasing the world’s thinnest foldable on 2 July 2025 – even as Samsung, its main competitor, prepares to showcase the Galaxy Z Fold 7 just a week later. However, the marginal difference in thickness (0.2 mm, according to official specs) probably won’t matter much in everyday use. Instead, consumers are more likely to base their purchase decisions on other factors, such as the camera system. For the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung is expected to upgrade the main camera to a 200 MP sensor whilst retaining the same 3x telephoto and ultrawide lenses found on the Z Fold 6.
Samsung phones typically lack a telemacro feature, and this is exactly where Honor could steal the show, as demonstrated by early camera samples. Rather than being official samples from Honor, these photos were shared by a Chinese blogger, lending added credibility to the device’s photography capabilities. The 70 mm f/2.5 telephoto lens on the successor to the Honor Magic V3 (available here on Amazon) certainly delivers impressive close-up shots for a foldable phone, with many online commenters noting that it rivals typical smartphone cameras in quality.
Honor Magic V5: All available colour options
Meanwhile, Honor has released rendered images of all colour options set to launch in China, though many early reviewers have already showcased these colourways in their recent hands-on images.
Honor Magic V5: Leaked specifications
The Honor Magic V5 has been officially confirmed to feature a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor inside its 8.8 mm-thick chassis. At the same time, a seemingly official spec sheet has surfaced online, suggesting the device could sport a 7.95-inch 2K AMOLED main display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and 4,320 Hz PWM dimming, alongside a 6.45-inch cover screen. The phone is reportedly powered by a 6,100 mAh battery capable of charging at 60 watts over USB-C or 50 watts wirelessly. All three rear cameras are tipped to use 50 MP sensors. According to the leaked specs, the Magic V5 may carry IP68 and IP69 ratings, potentially offering even greater dust and water resistance than the upcoming Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which is rumoured to be IP68-certified. Whilst the spec sheet may appear official, it’s wise approach it with caution, since neither Honor’s Weibo account nor online shop has mentioned it.
