Google Pixel 10: Pro features for camera, cooling and network could still be missing in 2025

Thanks to the additional telephoto lens, one might think that the Pixel 10 could be closer to the Pixel 10 Pro this year than ever before. However, there will likely be a few more or less arbitrary limitations. Some are quite surprising, as a new leak has now claimed.

Since the entire Pixel lineup, including the A-series mid-range phone, is powered by the same chipset, other features and differences are needed to entice buyers to spend more money on the significantly more expensive Pro model. And in 2025, it seems like many features will once again be exclusive to the Pixel 10 Pro, even though the Pixel 10's hardware would in some cases be just as capable. But let's start with the physical differences that are truly hardware-based.

Tensor G5: No vapor chamber

Just like the Pixel 9, the Tensor G5 in the regular Pixel 10 won't be cooled by a vapor chamber. This could have a real impact on performance, especially in extreme situations and when using demanding apps, such as games. Since the new Tensor processor will be manufactured by TSMC for the first time, there's hope for better power efficiency, but a performance discrepancy will likely still be measurable.

Downgrade: Apparently no Wi-Fi 7

This limitation comes as a surprise, given that the Pixel 9 (from $799 on Amazon) supports Wi-Fi 7. According to Android Headlines, this will no longer be the case with its successor, which would constitute a proper downgrade. Whether this is true remains to be seen. In any case, this missing feature would be quite arbitrary, as the same modem is supposedly built into all Pixel 10 models, and it's even the same as in the current Pixel 9.

Camera: Second class despite telephoto lens

As is typical for Google, there could be many artificial limitations when it comes to the cameras. Aside from the differences in camera hardware, some features will again be exclusive to the Pixel 10 Pro. For example, the leak mentions a new gimbal-like stabilization feature as well as "Ultra Res Zoom". The latter is supposed to improve the quality of zoomed shots even more than the previous "Super Res Zoom" and go far beyond the current maximum 8x zoom.

Chassis: The other way around compared to last year

The chassis might also reflect the different price points of Google’s upcoming phones. Similar to the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, there might be a matte frame and glossy back panel, so the base model could offer the exact opposite of the Pro variant.
