Deal | Gnome strategy game (95% positive) drops under $3 for first time on Steam

At the heart of Gnomes is an unassuming garden cottage that the nasty goblins are determined to destroy. Players take control of a small gnome settlement and do everything they can to defend the little house. To do so, they assemble a formidable squad of garden gnomes armed with knives, bows and magical abilities to take down the attackers. However, the goblin hordes grow larger and stronger with every wave, making the defense increasingly challenging.
In terms of gameplay, Gnomes combines turn-based tower defense with roguelike elements and resource management. Instead of traditional defense towers, players deploy different types of garden gnomes that can be freely repositioned between enemy waves. By strategically placing gnomes, buildings and plants, players can even create elaborate mazes that keep goblins under fire for as long as possible.
To keep the gnome army funded, players also need to do some farming. Crops such as wheat and corn can be grown to earn gold for new units and upgrades. Other plants even contribute directly to combat. Coffee plants, for example, increase the attack speed of nearby gnomes, while cacti deal damage to goblins themselves. Combined with various artifacts and passive upgrades, these mechanics open up numerous possibilities for tactical combinations.

Gnomes has been extremely well received by the Steam community. Reviews particularly praise the wide range of strategic options, varied maps and high replay value. However, some players criticize the occasionally uneven balancing and sometimes excessive reliance on randomness. Managing larger gnome armies can also become increasingly cumbersome, as units can only be repositioned one at a time. Despite these shortcomings, an impressive 95% of more than 1,800 Steam user reviews are positive.
