Cyberleek says GTA 6 build is 200 GB+, hinting at massive PS5 and Xbox file size

As Cyberleek keeps uploading gameplay videos, a recent GTA 6 leak shed light on the game’s size. A new message claims the development build used for the clips is over 200 GB. That may concern Xbox and PS5 console owners, but the pre-release date download could still be smaller.
If Cyberleek’s meme coin reaches a $30 million market cap, the individual promises to distribute a full 200 GB+ playable build. The file size either refers to packages shared on piracy sites or the storage space consumed on the leaker’s drive.
The cost of a massive open-world
The project's enormous scope could result in a formidable GTA 6 file size. In an August interview, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson confirmed the map is roughly twice as large as GTA 5’s open world. Vice City and the surrounding parts of Leonida are also incredibly detailed.
For comparison, the upgraded GTA 5 on the PS5 takes up about 95 GB on the console. Meanwhile, PC users must devote 105 GB to the title. Doubling that total wouldn’t be unprecedented, since some Call of Duty: Black Ops entries already exceed 200 GB. Nevertheless, many gamers would need to make compromises before the November 19th GTA 6 release date.
Amid the component shortage, expanding Xbox and PS5 storage has become increasingly expensive. Fans disappointed by the lack of a disc option would have another reason to regret the digital code-in-box solution. Even with mandatory additional downloads, players limited by monthly data caps prefer Blu-rays.
Hope for a reasonable file size
Fortunately, development builds usually don’t reflect retail releases. They may include assets, tools, and content that won’t appear in later versions. Studios also optimize textures to minimize memory and storage use. In September, a 192 GB archive from an earlier iteration of GTA 5 leaked, though it contained more than the game itself.
Rockstar did prepare for a larger-than-anticipated GTA 6 file size. Pre-order buyers can start downloading the title on November 12th, a week ahead of launch.
