Deal | Cheap laptop with 16 GB DDR5 RAM and 120 Hz display scores 50% discount

Folks on the lookout for an affordable laptop with 16 GB RAM and a healthy amount of compute power will be pleased to note that the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i laptop is now available with a sizable $650 discount bringing its price down to just under $650.

This specific variant of the IdeaPad Slim 3i laptop comes equipped with a 15-inch 2K 120 Hz touchscreen, an Intel Core 7 350 CPU with 16 GB of single-channel DDR5 RAM, and a 512 GB SSD. Given the ongoing insanity surrounding component prices, the specs on offer seem more than generous.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i has a faster chip than the MacBook Neo

The Intel Core 7 350 CPU features a total of two performance cores and four efficiency cores, allowing it to perform quite a bit faster than the A18 Pro-powered MacBook Neo (currently ~$700 on Amazon). The CPU also defeats the AMD Ryzen AI 5 430 APU found in modern entry-level laptops by a few percentage points, according to our detailed review of the laptop

There is obviously no room for discrete graphics, with the laptop relying solely on the Intel Graphics 2-core Xe3 iGPU, which is decent for basic workloads and video acceleration but falls well behind modern mid-range APUs such as the Radeon 840M.

The aforementioned 15.3-inch display features a resolution of 1920 by 1080 and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Our detailed review reveals that the laptop does indeed cover almost the entire sRGB color gamut while peaking out at roughly 420 nits of peak brightness. Color accuracy is very good out of the box and simply excellent once calibrated.

The I/O offer is quite decent and has been detailed below:

• Dual USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
• USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C with DisplayPort 1.2 and Power Delivery
• HDMI 1.4
• SD reader
• 3.5 mm audio jack

Wireless networking is handled by Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 support. Both the RAM and storage are user-accessible, courtesy of a single SODIMM slot as well as a single M.2 2242 slot. Other notable details include a 0.74-inch (or roughly 18.9 mm) thin chassis and a 50 Wh battery that lasted around 11.7 hours in our Wi-Fi web browsing test.
