Deal | Best-price deal: Unusual city builder now $5 instead of $25 on Steam

Anyone looking for an unusual city-building game might want to check out Airborne Kingdom. Instead of constructing a city on solid ground, players build their settlement on a flying platform – and have to make sure it remains airborne. The game normally costs around $25 on Steam, but it's currently 80% off, bringing the price down to just $4.99. According to SteamDB, that matches its lowest price to date.

Airborne Kingdom takes players to a fairy-tale-inspired steampunk world where several civilizations were once peacefully connected by a legendary flying kingdom. However, the airborne city has since disappeared, leaving the kingdoms divided. The objective is to rebuild the titular Airborne Kingdom and reunite the different civilizations. Rather than focusing on warfare and conquest, the game emphasizes exploration, trade and diplomacy.

Of course, players also have to keep expanding their city. That means constructing homes, workshops and production facilities, gathering resources and researching new technologies. The biggest challenge is maintaining balance. Every building has its own weight, and expanding the city unevenly can cause the entire platform to tilt. At the same time, players must ensure there's enough lift and propulsion to keep their flying metropolis in the air and moving forward.

Players and critics praise the game for its creative setting, relaxing atmosphere and unusual building mechanics. However, the objectives reportedly become rather repetitive over time, while the difficulty level is considered quite low. As a result, the game has a Metascore of 76. Its reception on Steam is somewhat more positive, with 86% of around 2,400 user reviews recommending it. Given the substantial discount, city-building fans might still want to give Airborne Kingdom a chance. The game is also playable on the Steam Deck.
