ZOTAC has now presented the ZONE, its first crack at creating a gaming handheld. As expected, the device combines elements from both the Steam Deck and the ASUS ROG Ally (curr. $399.99 on Amazon). For example, the ZOTAC ZONE utilises the Ryzen 7 8840U, an APU that is essentially the same as the Ryzen Z1 Extreme inside the ROG Ally and the new ROG Ally X.
Additionally, ZOTAC has equipped the ZONE with a 7-inch display that outputs at 1080p and 120 Hz. ZOTAC has chosen an AMOLED panel though, which will undoubtedly draw comparisons with the Steam Deck OLED. Likewise, the ZONE has a pair of rectangular trackpads, just like all Steam Deck models.

With that being said, ZOTAC is hoping to distinguish the ZONE from its peers with features like two-stage adjustable triggers, a mouse/controller slider and a radial dial for adjusting TDP on the fly. Moreover, the ZOTAC ZONE has hall effect triggers and hall effect joysticks, around which sit adjustable jog wheels for changing volume, among other uses. Furthermore, the device has a front-facing camera with Windows Hello support and a built-in stand.
Unfortunately, the ZONE only features a 48.5 Wh battery, despite weighing approximately 700 g and measuring 310 x 135 x 40 mm. Currently, ZOTAC is expected to release the ZONE for approximately €799 with 16 GB of LPDDR5X-7500 RAM and 512 GB of NVMe storage (M.2 2280). However, the ZOTAC ZONE will not be available until September 2024, after AMD releases its next-generation Ryzen AI 300 APUs. Please see ZOTAC's website for more details.
