Xiaomi has launched the MiTu S1 smartwatch in China. The wearable is designed for kids and their parents, offering a range of security and health-related features. The model has a 1.78-inch screen with a 448 x 368 px resolution. Plus, the watch pops out of its band, allowing it to be handheld or worn around the neck as a pendant.
The MiTu S1 supports 4G and offers dual-frequency GPS, allowing you to track your child's movements. A 90-day location tracking history and an offline tracking feature are available where data is stored when the watch reconnects to the network. The wearable features two HD cameras, 5MP at the front and 8MP at the rear, to allow users to make video calls and take photos. Video Call 2.0 offers new tools like camera switching and a can display real-time location. Health metrics like heart rate and blood oxygen level are tracked, with insights viewable in the accompanying app. On top of this, the smartwatch is said to detect signs of fatigue or stress and alert parents.
You can also use the wearable to log exercises with the K12 sports assistant, 18 types of activity and five physical tests. Other features include kid's versions of WeChat and QQ and 8GB memory, allowing you to install many apps. The watch has a 702 mAh battery, and, according to Xiaomi, a six-minute battery lets the watch run for a day. You can now buy the Xiaomi MiTu S1 smartwatch in China for the discounted price of 1,199 yuan (~$169); the wearable will typically retail for 1,299 yuan (~$183). It is unclear whether the gadget will be launched in other regions like Europe, where Xiaomi already offers models like the Watch S3.
