Xiaomi has now fully revealed the MIX Fold 3, a new rival for the Galaxy Z Fold5 and other large foldable smartphones. Based on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Leading Version, the MIX Fold 3 may also deliver a comparatively good camera experience thanks to the Sony IMX800 from the Xiaomi 13, among other features.

Xiaomi has finally revealed full details about the MIX Fold 3, one of several devices that the company is expected to announce today. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the MIX Fold 3 utilises the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Leading Version, effectively a re-branded Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, itself an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Xiaomi combines the flagship chipset with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 flash storage, as well as a 4,800 mAh battery that supports 67 W wired and 50 W wireless charging.

These components power 6.56-inch external and 8.03-inch internal displays, which describes as AMOLED and Pol-less Plus OLED panels, respectively. While both deliver up to 120 Hz refresh and 240 Hz touch sampling rates, only the internal display appears to feature an LTPO backplane for true variable refresh rates. Moreover, the external display has a 2,520 x 1,080-pixel resolution, compared to 2,160 x 1,916 pixels for the internal display.

Furthermore, Xiaomi has equipped the MIX Fold 3 with four rear-facing cameras, along with a pair of 20 MP selfie cameras, one for each display. On its website, Xiaomi states that the MIX Fold 3 features the Sony IMX800 as its primary camera, the same 1/1.49-inch sensor found in the Xiaomi 13 that outputs at 50 MP with 1.0-µm wide pixels. Xiaomi pairs the IMX800 with two 10 MP telephoto cameras and a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 75 mm, 115 mm and 15 mm equivalent focal lengths too. Seemingly, all rear-facing cameras support optical image stabilisation apart from the ultra-wide-angle camera, which also has a 120° field of view.

According to Xiaomi, the MIX Fold 3 weighs 255 g, 7 g lighter than its predecessor and 2 g heavier than the Galaxy Z Fold5. The MIX Fold 3 is smaller than both models though, with 161.2 x 143.28 x 5.26 mm dimensions when unfolded which narrows to 161.2 x 73.5 x 10.96 mm in its folded posture. Currently, Xiaomi has only announced MIX Fold 3 availability and pricing in China. For now, it is unclear whether the company plans to offer the device outside its home market; various leakers have previously suggested that it will remain a Chinese exclusive. For reference, the MIX Fold 3 is already orderable in China for the following prices:

  • 12 GB RAM/256 GB storage - CNY 8,999 (~US$1,244)
  • 16 GB RAM/512 GB storage - CNY 9,999 (~US$1,383)
  • 16 GB RAM/1 TB storage - CNY 10,999 (~US$1,521)
