Xiaomi BW500: New surveillance camera comes with large battery, integrated storage and AI support

The BW500 is a new surveillance camera from Xiaomi that stands out on account of its smart functions. For example, an NPU is integrated and its computing power is estimated at 1.2 TOPS. As is not uncommon for surveillance cameras, this should be able to identify people, vehicles or even animals. Users can thus not only informed about detected movement alone.

Thanks to IP67 certification, the camera is suitable for outdoor use and comes with a battery with a capacity of 10,000 mAh. In addition, depending on the amount of sunlight and the frequency of activation, a virtually unlimited runtime is possible via an 5-watt solar panel.

A resolution of 2560 x 1440 is supported and the field of view is specified as 136°. The BW500 is not a PTZ camera, meaning that it cannot rotate or move. The surveillance system features both visible LEDs and infrared LEDs, allowing night-time images to be taken inconspicuously or in color. An eMMC memory with a capacity of 32 GB is installed.

In China, the BW500 will be offered at a price of around $50, which is the crowdfunding price. It is quite likely that the camera will also be launched on the global market: the BW500 has already been described as compatible with the globally listed 5-watt panel, and numerous smart cameras from Xiaomi are already available.
