There will apparently not be an XRING O2.
After releasing Xring O1 about a year ago, Xiaomi is set to return with a direct successor. This new chipset is expected to be branded as Xring O3 and will power several devices with wider adoption tipped, compared to last year's SoC at least.

Xiaomi launched its first truly premium in-house SoC, Xring O1, last year, with the chipset going on to power devices like the Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra (read our review here) and Xiaomi 15S Pro. Xiaomi has been working on a direct successor to launch this year, and more information on it has now surfaced.

By all indications, the successor to last year's Xring O1 will be branded as Xring O3. This chipset will technically rival the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 but will likely launch just before Qualcomm's successor to that chipset debuts this year, and as such, may draw comparisons to the newer SoC.

Unfortunately, Xring O3 will be built on TSMC's 3nm node, the same one underpinning the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Qualcomm's next-gen flagship chipset, expected to be branded as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, however, will be built on TSMC's 2nm N2 node. That holds true for MediaTek's offering as well, effectively ensuring that Xring O3 is a generation behind in that aspect.

Regardless, the Xiaomi chipset is expected to arrive with significant efficiency gains compared to the already impressive Xring O1, while also delivering better performance overall, particularly in the mid to low frequency range.

Finally, as revealed in a prior report, Xring O3 will see wider adoption than Xring O1, with Xiaomi expected to use the chipset in more mobile devices, while possibly also equipping its upcoming EVs with it. Like its predecessor, Xring O3 is unlikely to be used on devices meant for the global market—although that is expected to change in future generations. An August release appears most probable.
