Two new Citizen Campanola limited-edition watches launch with mother-of-pearl moonphase

Campanola, Citizen's Japan-exclusive luxury watch division that just unveiled a new limited-edition reference, has now launched two new models built around Kōjō. That's the Japanese term for the starburst of light that radiates outward from a bright source, most commonly seen when looking directly at a star or distant light. It's a very well-known optical phenomenon, and both the BU0020-71N and BU0024-02N are designed to recreate it on the wrist.
Speaking of design, it is the same across both: the main dial sits recessed below an outer chapter ring for visual depth. A sapphire crystal inner bezel ring sits above the dial surface, treated on its underside with a color coating that changes in intensity depending on the viewing angle, which is the closest thing to replicating Kōjō in a static surface. A mother-of-pearl moonphase sub-dial is present at 6 o'clock, while a date display at 12, day on the left, and month on the right round out the calendar complications.
The BU0020-71N is on the warmer side — blue sunray dial, gold Roman numerals, gold hands, stainless steel bracelet. The BU0024-02N is much darker — black dial, grey sub-dial, DLC-coated black stainless steel case and leather strap. Both measure 43.5 mm in diameter and 14.8 mm thick. Power comes from Citizen's 8730 Eco-Drive Ring Solar caliber, which collects light through the recessed gap between the dial and the outer chapter ring rather than through the dial itself. It's a pretty neat solution that keeps the dial design free.
Production is limited to 250 pieces for the BU0020-71N and 170 pieces for the BU0024-02N, with the latter individually numbered on the case back. Both are Japan-market releases. Pricing hasn't been confirmed.
