The TOPC TXA2 mini-PC is now official with AMD's Gorgon Halo chips
The TOPC TXA2 packs AMD's Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 processor, 192 GB of unified memory and four M.2 SSD slots. Starting at $6,399, the compact workstation is considerably cheaper than AMD's first-party Halo developer platform.

Chinese manufacturer TOPC has introduced the TXA2, a compact workstation powered by AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 processor.  As for specifications, the TXA2 features 16 Zen 5 CPU cores, 32 threads and boost clocks of up to 5.2 GHz. Its integrated Radeon 8065S GPU features 40 RDNA 3.5 compute units, while the XDNA 2 NPU delivers up to 55 TOPS of AI performance.

The star of the show is its 192 GB of LPDDR5X-8533 unified memory, of which up to 160 GB can be allocated to the GPU. Storage expansion is another highlight, with four M.2 2280 SSD slots, two operating at PCIe 4.0 x4 speeds and the other two at PCIe 4.0 x2. Other features include 10 Gbps and 2.5 Gbps networking, Wi-Fi 7, two USB4 ports, HDMI, DisplayPort and an SD card reader.

While the machine’s specifications are comparable to those of other Gorgon Halo mini PCs, its $6,399 starting price makes it an interesting alternative to substantially more expensive offerings from established manufacturers. A 4 TB version costs $6,699.

For reference, AMD’s recently introduced Ryzen AI Halo developer platform costs $7,299 at Micro Centre. Both machines feature the same Gorgon Halo processor, 192 GB of LPDDR5X memory and 2 TB of storage, making TOPC’s offering about $900 cheaper.

The price difference extends to other similarly-specced systems. Minisforum’s MS-S1 MAX-P495 currently costs $7,399, while the GMKtec EVO-X5 Pro and Acemagic F9A Pro 495 are available for $6,799 and $6,499, respectively. The Framework Desktop is another alternative, starting at $6,799 for its DIY configuration without an SSD, or $7,449 for a pre-built system with 2 TB of storage.

Then there is the Peladn YO2 495, which launched in China for CNY 49,999 ($7,470) with 192 GB RAM and a 2 TB SSD. Consequently, TOPC’s workstation is competitively priced even before accounting for its storage expansion capabilities.

However, buyers should consider differences in cooling, after-sales support and software integration before assuming that the less expensive machine is necessarily the better workstation.
