TDM Neo headphones that transform into Bluetooth speakers now available

The TDM Neo hybrid headphones/speakers are now available following a successful Kickstarter campaign. The headphones use a patent-pending twist mechanism to convert into Bluetooth speakers or control playback. Four physical buttons can also be used to control the headphones.

The Neo hybrid headphones depend on two inward-facing 40 mm drivers for sound in headphone configuration, and two outward-facing 40 mm drivers in speaker mode. The headphone drivers are optimized for sound clarity, while the speaker drivers are optimized for loudness with five watts of power each, says TDM. Also, each stereo channel is powered by a separate amplifier for cleaner, more distortion-free sound reproduction.

The sound reproduction can be further tuned using the EQ in the accompanying app, which can also be used to find lost headphones or enable Game mode with lower latency.

The 340 g (12 oz.) Neo headphones can connect to more than one audio source at a time using the standard SBC or AAC audio codec over Bluetooth 6.0 connections. They also have a 3.5 mm audio input jack for direct connection to audio sources.

Multiple microphones with environmental noise canceling (ENC) are used to control voice assistants (Alexa, Google, or Siri) and to help transmit voices clearly during calls.

The Neo has a rated runtime of up to 200 hours in headphone mode and up to 16 hours in speaker mode. It can fast charge as well, adding 8 hours of runtime after 5 minutes of charging or fully charging in 3.0 hours, according to TDM. Expired batteries can be replaced.
