Capcom’s Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 remakes hit Switch 2 on Oct. 16, while Octopath Traveler I and II and Final Fantasy Resonance expand Square Enix’s HD-2D library.

Capcom and Square Enix are filling out the Nintendo Switch 2 library with native versions of some of their biggest games, led by a Resident Evil remake trilogy and two HD-2D role-playing games.

Capcom brings three Resident Evil remakes to Switch 2

Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition launch digitally on October 16, 2026, with physical editions following on January 29, 2027. Capcom revealed the trio during a Nintendo Direct on September 9. Unlike the cloud-streamed versions on the original Switch, these are native releases that run offline on Switch 2 hardware.

The Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition adds extra costumes, a Samurai Edge weapon, and a soundtrack swap option. The Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition includes the Separate Ways expansion starring Ada Wong, along with bonus outfits and weapons. Pre-orders carry early adopter discounts.

The remakes join native Switch 2 versions of Resident Evil 7 Biohazard Gold Edition and Resident Evil Village Gold Edition. Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline entry, has been available on the console since February 27, 2026, and Resident Evil Veronica is also planned.

Square Enix expands its HD-2D lineup

Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II arrived on Switch 2 in North America and Europe on October 1, after launching in Japan in July. Each game costs $59.99, while a digital bundle of both is $74.99. Physical copies use game-key cards, which require a download to play. The Switch 2 editions offer improved resolution and frame rates.

Existing owners get no discount. Square Enix confirmed there is no upgrade path from the Switch versions, and Switch save data does not carry over.

Final Fantasy Resonance follows on October 22 as the first HD-2D game in the Final Fantasy series. Developed by Square Enix and Lancarse, it adapts the first season of the mobile title Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. The standard edition costs $49.99, and the Switch 2 physical release is a game-key card. The game also launches on Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

What it means for Switch 2

Between the native Resident Evil releases and Square Enix's HD-2D push, Switch 2 now has a far stronger third-party catalog than the original Switch had at a similar stage, with three major releases landing within about three weeks.
