When Valve dropped the 2024 Steam Summer Sale trailer early last week, there was a lot of speculation about the new Deep Discounts category and what games would be featured in the new sale section. It appears as though the Steam Summer Sale has delivered on many of these expectations, discounting some fan-favourite games during the iconic summer game deal event.

The 2024 Steam Summer Sale kicked off with a bang, giving gamers one of the most highly regarded Batman games for only $1.99 — a whole 90% discount from the usual price of $10. Granted, Batman: Arkham Knight launched a whole nine years ago, so it's by no means a new game, but those who have been hesitant to pick it up have no more excuses.

There are also a handful of strategy and city-builder game deals in the Steam Summer Sale Deep Discounts bin to enjoy. 2019's highly rated Frostpunk, which puts players in charge of managing and expanding the last city on a frozen earth, is down to just $2.99. Humankind, a 4X game that is often spoken of as a compelling alternative to Civilization VI, is discounted to $4.99 and delivers just about everything a 4X or strategy game fan might be looking for.

Other highlights in the Steam Summer Sale Deep Discounts category include colourful indie precision platformer Celeste for $1.04 (90% off), isometric RPG Disco Elysium for $3.99 (90% off), and the genre-defining looter-shooter Borderlands 2 is just $3.
