A1 Picture's anime adaptation of the Solo Leveling manhwa has been a smash hit, with the second season breaking multiple records and flat-out becoming an internet sensation during its run. Unfortunately, fans of the series may have quite the wait on their hands for the third season of the show.
As revealed by show producer Sota Furuhashi during a Q&A session with Crunchyroll, the third season of Solo Leveling may not be coming anytime soon:
I think, more than anyone, I am anxiously awaiting a season 3. But in truth, between season 1 and season 2, 220,000 frames of animation were created. So, if it were up to me, I'd say let's wait until the next Olympics to see what's going to happen with a season 3. But I think that's more up to Kaneko and A-1 Pictures.
While that statement is framed as an opinion more than fact, it does lend some credence to reports that the third season of the show may take a while. The quality of Solo Leveling's animation has been widely lauded and seeing as the second season aired just a year after the first, A1 Pictures could likely take a much longer break between seasons this time.
A 2028 release would represent a three-year wait between seasons but even that isn't considered excessive these days. One-Punch Man, for example, spent four years between the first two seasons, with the third season set to air over six years after the second. Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen had to wait three years between the first two seasons as well.
