The Ringo smart ring has returned to the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform. The first campaign for the wearable launched in March, gaining more than 750 backers. However, Kickstarter suspended it in April, claiming it had found evidence that Ringo was "misrepresenting themselves or otherwise violating the letter or spirit of Kickstarter's rules".
Further explanation has been provided by Ringo, suggesting there was a misunderstanding about the involvement of the company eIoT. While Ringo has clarified that its device is based on eIoT technology, it claims its model significantly differs from other wearables already available from the company and has the broadest feature set. For example, the sensors and storage capacity are said to be enhanced for improved accuracy. Having shared this information with Kickstarter, the company has been allowed to launch a new campaign for the Ringo smart ring. Original backers must pledge to this new campaign if they still wish to receive the wearable; pledges from the older campaign were cancelled, and backers were not charged.
You can pledge $199 for the Ringo Pro smart ring, 60% off the $498 RRP, with shipping due to begin in August. At the time of writing, this second campaign has over 200 supporters. However, there is still no guarantee that backers will receive the product. The standard Ringo smart ring is not currently available due to "production challenges"; Ringo has indicated that it plans to launch this model later. The company has also said it will sell its smart rings on its website and via Amazon when the crowdfunding campaign ends. Smart rings from other brands, like the Oura Horizon, are already offered via Amazon.
