Reliable leaker clarifies Nvidia's new GeForce RTX 50 GPU plan for CES 2027

With the apparent discontinuation of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 and the RTX 5080, Nvidia is seemingly making room for a single GeForce GPU to replace the ill-fated cards. The upcoming GeForce card in question is expected to be the RTX 5080 24 GB. Leaker Moore’s Law Is Dead has now clarified the situation regarding the launch of the GPU.
MLID claims that Nvidia will launch the RTX 5080 with 24 GB of VRAM at CES 2027 in January. We recently reported that AIB partners have allegedly not received any design documents from Nvidia to manufacture the 24 GB version of the RTX 5080. This puts the whole CES release of the RTX 5080 24 GB in question.
Putting MLID’s leak and information from Chinese board channels together, Nvidia could just announce the RTX 5080 24 GB at CES 2027 and not actually launch the product. MLID claims that the RTX 5080 24 GB is likely going to be a pure paper launch with no actual availability.
Price-wise, the RTX 5080 24 GB price could be around the MSRP of the RTX 5090. MLID speculates that the GPU could have an official MSRP of $1,500. However, since there would be little to no stock, it won’t surprise us to see the RTX 5080 24 GB sell for well above $1,500.
We don’t know how much the launch of the RTX 5080 24 GB will help the overall DIY PC market. Things have gotten so bad for GeForce GPU availability that AMD has even managed to sell more GPUs than Nvidia on Amazon US for the first time ever.
That said, the existence of the RTX 5080 24 GB and its price are pure speculation at this point. Only time will tell what Nvidia shows at CES 2027.
