AMD Radeon R2 (Stoney Ridge) vs ARM Mali-G52 MP1 vs ARM Mali-G71 MP20

AMD Radeon R2 (Stoney Ridge)

► remove from comparison AMD Radeon R2 (Stoney Ridge)

The AMD Radeon R2 (Stoney Ridge) is an integrated graphics adapter of the weakest mobile dual-core Stoney Ridge APUs. At its launch, it is being used in the AMD E2-9010 and probably has 128 shaders running at up to 600 MHz. The performance can vary heavily depending on the configured TDP and the system memory.

Architecture and Features

The Radeon R4 is equipped with two cores from the third GCN generation (often called GCN 1.2 or 2.0 by the press). This means it is very similar to the Tonga desktop chip and supports DirectX 12 (FL 12_0), but the graphics cores can also be accessed via Mantle, OpenGL, and OpenCL. The GPU supports the HSA 1.0 standard as well and can therefore use the connection with the CPU cores very efficiently. The technical specifications are identical to the Carrizo predecessor.

The video unit includes the UVD 6 (Unified Video Decoder), which can decode HEVC/H.265 and 4K with support from the hardware. More details are available in our dedicated Stoney Ridge article

Power Consumption

Depending on the model and configured TDP (cTDP), the 28 nm chip is specified with 10 up to 15 Watts. This means it can also be used for thin and light notebooks.

ARM Mali-G52 MP1

► remove from comparison ARM Mali-G52 MP1

The ARM Mali-G52 MP1 (or G52MC1) is an integrated mid-range graphics card for ARM based SoCs (mostly Android based Tablets). It was introduced mid 2020 in the MediaTek MT8168 with a clock speed of up to 800 MHz.

The G52 is based on the Bifrost architecture and is intended for mainstream phones. ARM claims that the G52 series offers 30% more performance density and 15% better energy efficiency compared to the ARM Mali G51 series.

The performance of the G52MP2 in our benchmarks (in the MediaTek MT8168) is clearly below the G52 MP2 version in the entry level. That means its not well suited for demanding 3D Android games like PUBG Mobile.

The GPU supports all modern graphics APIs like OpenGL ES 3.2, Vulkan 1.0, OpenCL 2.0 and Renderscript.

ARM Mali-G71 MP20

► remove from comparison ARM Mali-G71 MP20

The ARM Mali-G71 MP20 is an integrated high-end graphics adapter for ARM SoCs, which was e.g. used in smartphone chip Samsung Exynos 9 8895. It features 20 clusters and is manufactured in 10nm FinFET (in the Exynos 8895). The performance is in the high-end class and therefore all current Android games should run fluently on the chip.
