Mechrevo's upcoming Master Road X10 mini PC combines Nvidia RTX Spark hardware with proprietary AI SSD technology. The manufacturer claims the technology can accommodate AI models with up to 122 billion parameters.

Chinese PC manufacturer Mechrevo is preparing to launch a new mini PC called the Master Road X10. Unlike conventional mini PCs, the Master Road X10 is primarily designed for running large AI models locally, and it comes with some interesting tweaks that could actually help. The Master Road X10 uses Nvidia's RTX Spark platform, which combines a 20-core Grace CPU with a Blackwell GPU featuring up to 6,144 CUDA cores. It supports up to 128 GB of LPDDR5X unified memory.

These are the platform's maximum specifications, and Mechrevo has yet to confirm the exact configuration of its mini PC. However, the most interesting feature is Mechrevo's proprietary AI SSD. Instead of relying exclusively on system memory, the technology can offload portions of large AI models from DRAM to NAND flash. It can also preserve and reuse previously processed context, theoretically reducing redundant computations and model-loading overhead. Mechrevo claims this allows the Master Road X10 to run models with 80 billion, 120 billion and even 122 billion parameters while maintaining responsive performance. Unfortunately, the exact SSD capacity hasn't been specified.

This isn't the first time Mechrevo has discussed the technology. During the September presentation, the company claimed its AI SSD could increase supported model workloads by up to 5.7 times and accelerate the prefill stage by as much as 95%. Laboratory testing on the Mechrevo Yaoshi 15 Air laptop reportedly demonstrated an almost twofold improvement in inference speed. The SSD is also said to support persistent AI memory by retaining user preferences and contextual information between sessions. However, there are some important caveats.

Mechrevo has not published detailed benchmarks, model quantisation settings or test conditions to substantiate these claims. Furthermore, NAND flash is considerably slower than DRAM, meaning that an SSD capable of accommodating a larger model will not necessarily deliver faster inference. For now, the Master Road X10's memory configurations, AI SSD capacity, connectivity options, pricing and release date remain unknown. It will be interesting to see whether Mechrevo can translate its ambitious laboratory claims into measurable real-world performance improvements.
