RPCS3 shares big news: Beloved PS3 exclusive games now run on PC without crashes
From resolving graphical issues to improving compatibility and performance of Sony PlayStation 3 games on PC, RPCS3 has been making some impressive advances as of late. The RPCS3 team has now announced another big piece of news on X, which is something that fans of Ratchet & Clank games will definitely enjoy.
All Ratchet & Clank games available on the PS3 can now run on a PC without any crashes. The RPCS3 team credits this achievement to RPCS3 Lead Dev elad335, who “improved RSX FIFO GET accuracy”.
So, gamers can now play Ratchet & Clank:
- Tools of Destruction released in (2007)
- Quest for Booty released in 2008
- A Crack in Time released in 2009
- All 4 One released in 2011
- QForce released in 2012
- Into the Nexus released in 2013
While these PS3 Ratchet & Clank games can now run on PCs without issues, the RPCS3 team does not classify them as “Playable”. This is because of insufficient performance. The team explains that the “performance needs to match PS3 levels of performance on the RPCS3 recommended specifications”.
PS3 emulation using RPCS3 is super CPU demanding. So, people with top-of-the-line CPUs like the Ryzen 7 9800X3D might brute force their way to a smooth framerate in Ratchet & Clank titles mentioned above. But if you have modest CPUs like the AMD Ryzen 5 5600 or Intel Core i5-10400, you’ll have to wait for further performance improvements. Finally, we must remind gamers to only emulate games that they legally own. RPCS3 can play games directly from PS3 discs if you have a compatible Blu-ray disc drive. You can get them for pretty cheap on online marketplaces like eBay.
