Earlier rumors about the AMD Strix Point lineup claimed that it would launch as the Ryzen AI 100 series. However, at Computex, the company officially introduced the next-gen processors as Ryzen AI 300 series CPUs instead. This suggested that AMD made last-minute changes, and now that has been confirmed by a prototype laptop from Computex.
What’s more interesting is that this prototype laptop from Computex also confirms that AMD has made a last-minute change to the name of the iGPU. The company officially launched the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 with Radeon 890M with 16 compute units (CUs), while the Ryzen AI 9 365 got the Radeon 880M with 12 CUs.
However, the prototype laptop spotted at Computex has Ryzen AI 9 HX 170 with Radeon 880M, while the Ryzen AI 9 165 variant has a Radeon 870M. According to the official launch information, the latter iGPU doesn’t exist. This proves that the company has also renamed the iGPUs.
So, with this, it stands that AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 170 got changed to Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, while the Ryzen AI 9 165 was renamed to Ryzen AI 9 365. As for the iGPUs, the company changed the name of Radeon 880M to 890M and 870M to 880M. This last-minute change may have caused companies to scrape or redo their marketing materials for Computex.
That said, while AMD did announce Strix Point at Computex, devices with these next-gen processors don’t really have a firm release date yet. However, we will likely see companies announcing the availability and pricing info of the new Ryzen AI 300 series products soon.
