Physical GTA 6 pre-orders may include poster instead of map after retail leak

Rockstar’s announcement that a GTA 6 map would be available on its website caused disappointment. Past titles shipped the extra inside the physical cases. However, a German retailer may have leaked that the boxes contain a double-sided poster as a bonus.

An unexpected perk?

MediaMarkt shared pictures of the dual-sided print on its Instagram account. The cover art from the GTA 6 PS5 and Xbox versions is on one side, while a familiar but unnamed character appears on the reverse. It also reads “Welcome to Vice City”, although there is no map of the metropolis or Leonida.

Any customer who buys the Rockstar title at the storefront or Saturn will receive the poster. Unfortunately, it’s not clear whether it comes in cases or is handed out separately. The business hasn’t yet confirmed it leaked an unboxing early. Still, the fact that it’s the correct dimensions and folded up gives hope it’s a universal perk.

The official GTA 6 map is set to emerge on or just after its release date. Yet, fans will either have to download a digital version, pay 99 cents, or select merchandise that bundles it as a gift. A similar print is part of the pricey The Goodtime State-Vice City Collection still up for pre-order.

Those options prompted groans from disc supporters already unhappy about the digital code-in-box solution. A poster would give collectors more reason not to settle for Xbox or PlayStation Store purchase.

Charting Leonida

Even if MediaMarkt’s bonus goes worldwide, it won’t satisfy geography enthusiasts. Starting with Grand Theft Auto in 1997, maps accompanied most of Rockstar's physical games. Red Dead Redemption and its sequel continued the same tradition.

With the GTA 6 release date nearly here, gamers should soon find out if cases hide a surprise. Pre-order buyers can collect their reservations on November 12th. Retailers like Amazon should also begin shipping the title around then. To accommodate the 200 GB+ download, PS5 and Xbox pre-loads open two days earlier.
