Philips has released yet another 49-inch ultra-wide monitor. Available globally, the Philips 49B2U6903CH offers two Thunderbolt 4 ports and is equivalent to having a pair 27-inch and 16:9 monitors sat next to each other.

Philips has unveiled another ultra-wide office monitor, which it is selling globally as the 49B2U6903CH. If that name sounds familiar, it may be because the company announced the 49B2U5900CH in November 2023. Fundamentally, the 49B2U6903CH is the same monitor as the 49B2U5900CH.

For example, the 49B2U6903CH features a 49-inch VA panel that outputs at 5,120 x 1,440 pixels with a 32:9 aspect ratio and 109 PPI pixel density. Additionally, the panel delivers 450 nits SDR and 500 nits HDR peak brightnesses, plus a 75 Hz refresh rate. However, the latter is only possible when connecting the 49B2U6903CH to a device over Thunderbolt that supports Display Stream Compression (DSC).

Incidentally, that brings us to the only tangible difference between the 49B2U6903CH and 49B2U5900CH. Specifically, Philips has equipped the former with a pair of Thunderbolt 4 ports, twice as many as it includes in the 49B2U5900CH. With that being said, although both ports support DisplayPort Alt Mode, only one can recharge devices at up to 100 W.

In comparison, Philips limits the second Thunderbolt 4 port inside the 49B2U6903CH to 15 W. The net result is that the 49B2U6903CH costs a fair bit more than the slightly older 49B2U5900CH. According to Philips, the 49B2U6903CH retails for £1,159.99 in the UK and €1,399 in the Eurozone, a 22% and 16% surcharge, respectively, compared to the 49B2U5900CH.
