Phasmophobia by Alan Wake is live

Phasmophobia is crossing over with Alan Wake 2 today in the ghost-hunting game's first-ever collaboration. The event, titled Phasmophobia by Alan Wake, went live on May 12 across PC via Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S and runs until 2 June. It is free for all players who own Phasmophobia, which remains in Early Access across all platforms.
The collaboration was developed in partnership with Remedy Entertainment and written by Sam Lake, the creative director behind Alan Wake 2. The premise slots directly into both games' lore. Alan Wake, trapped in the Dark Place, a nightmare version of New York City at the heart of Alan Wake 2's story, writes a new manuscript. As he does, the paranormal investigators of Phasmophobia find themselves pulled into it, caught inside a horror story they cannot escape. Familiar investigation locations shift as the atmosphere of the Dark Place bleeds in, changing how lighting, sound, and environmental details behave across haunted maps.
Why this collab and why now
Kinetic Games CEO Daniel Knight described the collaboration as something that came together naturally, with both studios sharing an approach to horror built around tension and the unknown rather than jump scares. Remedy's Sam Lake echoed this: "It was a joy to write for this collaboration. Our two twisted worlds amplify each other perfectly." Kinetic Games art director Corey Dixon told PC Gamer that choosing Alan Wake 2 over the original was deliberate. The sequel pushed further into pure horror and aligns more closely with the psychological pressure Phasmophobia puts on players.
The event is one-time only. Kinetic Games has confirmed there are no plans to rerun it after 2 June, meaning any exclusive cosmetic rewards tied to the collaboration will not be available again once the event closes. Dixon said the studio is open to future work with Remedy if players respond well, but nothing beyond this event has been confirmed. The collaboration also carries a side note worth flagging for PC players: Alan Wake 2 remains an Epic Games Store exclusive on PC. The crossover assets will appear inside Phasmophobia on Steam, making this the first time Alan Wake 2's world has appeared on Valve's platform in any form.
Where Phasmophobia stands in 2026
Phasmophobia launched in Early Access in 2020 and has grown steadily ever since. The game has sold 28 million copies in total: 23 million on Steam and 5 million on console, without ever leaving Early Access. Kinetic Games is working toward a full 1.0 launch later this year alongside a visual overhaul and map redesigns. A Blumhouse film adaptation is also in development, making this a significant moment for a small UK studio that started with a single co-op horror concept and built one of the most-played games of the decade.
Phasmophobia by Alan Wake is live now and runs until 2 June on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
