The Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2 smartwatch models are now called Pebble 2 Duo and the Pebble Time 2*. The Pebble 2 Duo is expected to start shipping by end-August but the timeline for the Pebble Time 2* is unclear at this point.

The upcoming smartwatch models from Pebble founder’s new company Core Devices will bring back the popular Pebble naming convention. The two models in the pipeline have been renamed and now carry the Pebble branding, a successful attempt at revitalizing the brand after it shut down almost 10 years ago. While there is no release date for the smartwatches yet, shipping is expected to commence end of August.

Pretty much everyone has heard of the brand Pebble even though it does not have a wide product portfolio, nor did it operate for very long. In 2016, it was announced that the company will be shut down and stop support for any and all devices, just three years after its first smartwatch came to market. This year, founder Eric Migicovsky launched a new company called Core Devices with the aim to revitalize Pebble smartwatches and announced two models, Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2.

In an update shared on his personal blog a couple weeks ago, Migicovsky confirmed that his team was able to secure the Pebble trademark and that the two upcoming smartwatch models are now called the Pebble 2 Duo and the Pebble Time 2*. Yes, the asterisk is part of the name and it signifies that the watch is slightly different than the original Pebble Time 2, which was announced in 2016 but never shipped.

As for a release window, Migicovsky shared that the Pebble 2 Duo is not in mass production yet and that batch 1 will start shipping by the end of August. The next batch will arrive mid-September. The timeline for the Pebble Time 2*, on the other hand, is unclear as Migicovsky has received the first fully assembled Pebble Time 2* running PebbleOS, as part of the Engineering Verification test (EVT) phase. The founder also shared some insights on the pricing and stated that due to the tariffs, US orders for the Pebble 2 Duo will cost $10 extra.
