PS6 leaks detail cross-gen PS5 game support and faster cloud gaming and storage

While many PS6 leaks have focused on the console’s specs, cloud gaming may also be a priority. A new MP1st article discusses how Sony has modernized its infrastructure for faster streaming. For local play, the system will reportedly have an upgraded SSD. Finally, the site found more evidence that the hardware will support PS5 games.
Improving cloud streaming
According to James Lara, Sony has been heavily investing in new server technology for more than 3 years. One of the key changes benefits storage, with PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSDs boosting speeds. In line with other rumors, MP1st also believes the upcoming gaming system will ship with the same type of drive.
The PS5 relies on a PCIe Gen4 SSD, which promotes swifter downloads and quicker loading times. PS6 specs could double that performance, but may come at a high cost for buyers. The storage and memory shortages threaten to inflate the console’s price, making cloud gaming more appealing.
Sony has already expanded its streaming options with PS Plus Premium. In addition, the PlayStation Portal has become a popular mobile extension of the service. Looking ahead, the rumored PS6 handheld may play PS5 titles natively. Yet it could also support cloud gaming and remote play from the at-home hardware.
The next PlayStation era promises faster storage, but perhaps at similar capacities to keep MSRPs reasonable. Kepler_L2, the source of many PS6 leaks, revealed that it will offer 1TB of space. However, Sony is experimenting with ways to reduce game installations, including neural texture compression. An AI-capable GPU would downsize files before reconstruction.
Will PS4 and PS5 games be supported?
If the new console stretches wallets, the PS5 generation will likely be extended. With that in mind, MP1st learned that Sony is “developing assets (both 2D and 3D) for the current (PS5) and next-gen (PS6) consoles.”
Although this discovery isn’t surprising, it validates other leaks about cross-gen compatibility. For buyers who do upgrade on the PS6 release date, they wouldn’t have to purchase a new crop of games immediately. As far as potential first-party launch titles, MP1st teases an “immersive third-person horror shooter” in development.
