A Nintendo eShop card has confirmed The Ocarina of Time remake download size. While not close to the largest Switch 2 game, it will take up more storage than previous mainline Zelda titles. A massive upgrade to the N64 classic’s graphics and added cinematics are factors.

Nintendo had already listed the estimated Ocarina of Time remake size on its store pages. Digital gaming supporters now know the download will also be 27 GB. A leaked Japanese eShop card confirms it’s larger than any mainline Switch 2 Zelda game.

On social media, Genki shared what buyers who opt against the foil cover physical pre-order will receive. The card advises console owners that by the Ocarina of Time release date, they should free up 27 GB of storage.

A supersized Ocarina

Not surprisingly, the Switch 2 game is far beefier than the N64 classic. The original occupied a 32 MB cartridge, about 844 times smaller than the modernized version’s download size. Even compared to most current-gen Zelda games, the remake monopolizes more space on the handheld or MicroSD Express card.

The exception is the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment spinoff, which is a heftier 43.5 GB. Still, the upgraded Breath of the Wild checks in at 24.1 GB, while Tears of the Kingdom is just over 20 GB. Unlike The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of the Time, both are open-world adventures.

Anticipated Switch 2 upgrades

After launching on the Wii U or OG Switch, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom looked noticeably sharper. However, the improvements aren’t on the same scale as the upcoming Switch 2 project. Digital Foundry believes fans should expect a docked native 1080p resolution at 60 fps.

Previews verified that developers didn’t create a traditional 1:1 remake. Hyrule may still seem compact by today’s standards and can be traversed without an exhaustive effort. Yet new side quests await, and the Hall of Fallen Heroes debuts. The area commemorates fallen bosses and lets Link reengage with his enemies.

Cutscenes with added voice-overs also contribute to the larger eShop size. To prepare, players who pre-order the digital version will likely see a pre-load opportunity. If history repeats, Nintendo could let buyers download the files 7 days before the November 5th Ocarina of Time release date.
