At Computex 2024, Nvidia unveiled Project G-Assist - a new AI assistant that gives players real-time tips on weapons, tactics and game settings. In contrast to the April Fool's joke from 2017 where Nvidia presented the GeForce GTX G-Assist - a USB stick that played games automatically - Project G-Assist offers real support in the form of text or audio hints.
If you look at titles such as Elden Ring, it is noticeable that computer games are becoming increasingly complex. It can take a while to get to grips with a new game and internalize all the mechanics. This is exactly where Project G-Assist comes in. Using text or voice input, gamers can ask the AI questions about the game and receive a personalized answer - for example, "Where is the next quest giver?" or "Which weapon should I use here?".
In a technical demonstration with the game ARK: Survival Ascended project G-Assist showed off its skills. For example, he recommends the spear as the best weapon for the start of the game and gives detailed instructions on collecting materials and taming dinosaurs.

Nvidia's Project G-Assist is not only intended to help gamers with gaming, but also with the configuration of system settings by recommending graphics settings that match the hardware. In this way, the AI assistant can at least indirectly contribute to better gaming performance.
What are the technical requirements?
Project G-Assist is based on a LLM (Large Language Model) - an artificial intelligence similar to ChatGPT that has been trained using machine learning to understand and generate speech. According to Nvidia, this works both via RTX graphics cards and via the GeForce NOW cloud gaming platform. Gamers therefore do not necessarily need the latest RTX GPU to be able to use Project G-Assist.
