The RTX 5090 is about get a whole lot more scarce
Nvidia has reportedly stopped allocating new GB202 GPU supplies to the GeForce RTX 5090, reserving future production for its professional RTX Pro graphics cards. If true, the development could worsen RTX 5090 availability, which is already pretty spotty.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 could be approaching the end of its production run, according to a new claim from MEGAsizeGPU. In a post, the leaker stated that there would be no further GB202 chip supplies for the RTX 5090. Instead, all future GB202 production would reportedly be reserved exclusively for Nvidia's RTX Pro graphics cards.

This tacitly signals that Nvidia does not plan to manufacture any new RTX 5090 units for the foreseeable future. With prices already hovering around the $5,000 mark, the flagship Blackwell GPU could get even more expensive once fresh supply stops coming in. And then there’s the issue of its connectors burning out seemingly at random, and it will be interesting to see how Nvidia handles warranty requests for such units.

It is also important to distinguish between the reported end of new GB202 allocations and the discontinuation of the RTX 5090 itself. Nvidia and its board partners could continue selling graphics cards assembled using existing inventories. The putative RTX 50 Super lineup should be largely unaffected because none of the SKUs are tipped to use a GB202 GPU.

Interestingly, the development might not necessarily be bad news for the consumer GPU market. Nvidia could simply be scaling back GB202 production to free up manufacturing capacity for newer graphics processors. With Blackwell having been on the market since early 2025, a gradual production wind-down would hardly be surprising, especially if Nvidia is preparing to transition to a new generation of GPUs.

This does not necessarily mean that the GeForce RTX 60 series is launching anytime soon, with multiple leakers zeroing in on a 2028 release window. Nvidia could be reallocating manufacturing resources to other products, including its lucrative professional and data centre offering. The RTX Pro 5500’s recent arrival is no coincidence, and it may have been what prompted Nvidia to reprioritise its GB202 allocation.
