Nitecore P27iX: New EDC flashlight sports 5,000 lumens and 470 yards of range

Nitecore has released two powerful flashlights. We were able to take a first hands-on look at the P27iX together with the P17iX at IWA in Germany. Three months later, at least one of the flashlights has officially gone on sale.
With 5,000 lumens and a range of 470 yards, it is one of the more powerful flashlights. It has two different control systems. The flashlight is operated as usual via the main button near the head. There is also an LED indicator for the battery capacity and the selected brightness level. At the end of the flashlight, meanwhile, there are two switches intended for quick access.
The rear buttons provide quick access to the highest floodlight and spotlight modes. A lock switch prevents the flashlight, which can become very hot, from being activated accidentally. In terms of operation, the new P series is similar to the EDC series. However, there is one major difference. Nitecore calls these modes Search and Lumin-Shield. They are only available briefly until the flashlight head becomes too hot. The output is then dimmed.
The regular modes, on the other hand, can be used continuously. According to Nitecore, the flashlight lasts at least 2:30 hours in these modes, regardless of whether floodlight, spotlight or both are used. In the lowest mode, the P27iX lasts 100 hours. The exact runtimes can be found in the chart that's embedded below.
Overall, the P27iX is reminiscent of the EDC series, but with one major difference: the battery in the P models is replaceable. The P27iX uses a 21700 battery with a capacity of around 20Wh. In addition to the option of charging it externally, the P27iX and P17iX also have a USB-C port directly on the flashlight, protected by a metal cover. Last but not least, the flashlight is 5.6 inches long and weighs around 4.4 oz. The Nitecore P27iX is now orderable at the brand's official online store for $159.
