BioStar is a well-known player in the realm of mini PCs aimed at industrial and enterprise users. The company's latest offering, the MS-U320, happens to be based on Intel's Wildcat Lake platform, packing up to 64 GB of RAM and a healthy array of ports in a fanless enclosure.

Biostar has introduced a new fanless mini PC aimed primarily at industrial workloads. Dubbed the EdgeComp MS-U320, the compact mini PC is powered by Intel's Wildcat Lake chips.

To be more specific, the mini PC sports the Intel Core 5 320 CPU, featuring two performance cores and four efficiency cores for a total of six cores and six threads.

According to our expansive database of benchmarks, the Core 5 320 should be able to achieve roughly 6,200 points in Cinebench R23, putting it in the same league as an AMD Ryzen 3 7330U. Clearly, the chip should be good enough for most casual workloads, although heavy CPU-intensive tasks might not be perfectly doable.

An even lower-end variant with a Core 3 304 5-core CPU is also available. For most enterprise workloads, such as industrial automation, digital signage, edge gateway, POS, and self-service kiosks, the amount of compute on offer should be sufficient.

Needless to say, the lack of moving parts makes the compact mini PC easy to deploy in harsh and dusty environments without having to worry about debris ingress.

The mini PC sports a single DDR5-6400 SODIMM slot, which can accommodate up to a maximum 64 GB of RAM in single-channel mode. As can be expected from a mini PC aimed at industrial and enterprise environments, the EdgeComp MS-U320 ships with a healthy array of ports detailed below:

  • Dual USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
  • 4 USB 2.0
  • Dual RS232, dual RS232/422/485
  • HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4
  • 3.5 mm audio jack
  • Dual 2.5G Ethernet

Other notable details, pricing, and availability

The fanless EdgeComp mini PC measures in at 167 x 135 x 60 mm and tips the scales at around 1.2 kg or roughly 2.6 lbs. Unsurprisingly, the understandably chunky passive cooling solution adds quite a bit of weight to the system.

Further expansion options include an M.2 2242/2280 slot for PCIe 4.0 x2 storage, an M.2 2230 slot (PCIe 4.0 x1), and finally, an M.2 3042/3052 slot with support for 4G/5G modules for cellular connectivity. Optional DIN rail, and Wall/VESA mounts are available.

Pricing and availability details are unclear as of this writing. Like most other mini PCs aimed at enterprise usage, the EdgeComp MS-U320's pricing is also likely to depend on order volume.

Typical consumers looking for a capable mini PC for day-to-day usage can check out the Ryzen-powered GMKtec M6 Ultra with 32 GB RAM, currently available for just under $800 on Amazon.
