Activision has published a new patent that will enable real-time customization of video game content based on player timing. The patent, titled "SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR THE REAL-TIME CUSTOMIZATION OF VIDEO GAME CONTENT BASED ON PLAYER DATA", was published on May 23, 2024, after being filed on January 29, 2024.
The aim of the patented function is to ensure an equal gaming experience for all players - regardless of how much time they can invest in the game. To this end, the gaming function is intended to adapt elements such as scenes, levels and the number of opponents in real time to the remaining playing time, which is determined by the players themselves. This should prevent players from having to leave important sections of the game unfinished when their playing time ends.

It is not yet known when and in which games the system will be implemented. However, Activision has indicated that it could be used in a variety of genres, including multiplayer games. It is conceivable, for example, that Activision's Call of Duty series could benefit from this function. Whether the system can be integrated into an MMO such as World of Warcraft remains to be seen.
