Mimesis: Off the Rails — trust nobody, not even your senses

ReLU Games, a studio owned by South Korean gaming giant Krafton, has released Off the Rails, the second major update for its four-player cooperative horror game Mimesis. The update celebrates the game's first anniversary in Steam Early Access with a new Paranoia system, smarter AI enemies and a film studio environment.
The central idea is wonderfully uncomfortable. Players must cooperate to survive while identifying AI-controlled creatures that imitate their teammates. With the new Paranoia system, increasing contamination can cause players to experience different versions of the same situation.
One player might hear voices nobody else can hear, while another could encounter an impostor invisible to the rest of the group. The developers have also improved how these creatures observe and reproduce player behavior, potentially making it harder to distinguish a real teammate from an artificial replacement.
The update introduces a film studio map, three new monsters, additional equipment, traps and service stations. There is also a redesigned interface and new survival statistics. Existing players should note that old save files are incompatible with the update, while key bindings have been reset.
Mimesis normally costs $9.99 on Steam and is currently $3.99 (discounted by 60% for the Halloween event). The game remains in Early Access, and the improvements to its AI behavior are developer claims rather than independently verified performance results.
As if surviving alongside three friends wasn't difficult enough, now you can't even be sure you're all seeing the same thing.
