Logitech has revised its portable Keys-To-Go keyboard for tablets and smartphones with a new folding cover that, when closed, protects the keys from dust and other damage. The Keys-To-Go 2 has 1 mm key travel and an overall thickness varying from 4.35 to 8.97 mm, and can switch between three devices.

While integrated keyboard cases for iPad have their obvious advantages, there are downsides too, such as the added weight and bulk to an otherwise thin tablet, and the inability to use it with other devices, or even other iPad versions. Logitech’s newly launched and redesigned Keys-To-Go 2 portable keyboard makes a solid argument for a standalone keyboard that’s usable across multiple devices.

Despite being extremely thin (ranging from 4.35 to 8.97 mm), the Keys-To-Go 2 doesn’t compromise on ergonomics, with its slightly angled profile and 1 mm key travel – the same as on, say, the MacBook Air M3 and the Magic Keyboard. At 222 g (7.84 oz), it’s fairly light as well.

What makes it a great travel keyboard is the folding cover which, when storing it in a backpack, should protect the keys from dust and lint as well as mechanical damage from other loose objects. For typing, the cover can be flipped back, adding some height to the keyboard. The one thing missing from it is a trackpad, so those seeking a true laptop-like experience on the iPad would be better off with Apple's Magic Keyboard, or by getting a Magic Trackpad.

The Keys-To-Go 2 can also simultaneously pair with 3 devices and can switch between them with simple shortcut keys, making it easy to multitask on separate devices. Speaking of compatibility, the keyboard is available in two layouts – an Apple-centric one for iPads, iPhones and MacBooks, and a universal one that’s additionally compatible with Android, Windows and ChromeOS devices.

The sleek design precludes the use of rechargeable batteries; instead, the Keys-To-Go 2 uses a pair of common CR2032 coin batteries. Thankfully, Logitech claims a 3 year life on those batteries, even with 2 hours of typing daily.

The keyboard comes in three colours – Graphite, Pale Grey and Lilac. For the construction, Logitech has used plastic that’s 36% recycled from old electronics and aluminium manufactured with renewable energy.

The Keys-To-Go 2 is now available in both the Apple device layout and the universal layout on Amazon for $79.99.
