Lenovo releases new 14-inch laptop with over 40% longer battery than Intel model

Lenovo has finally released the Snapdragon X2-powered version of the ThinkBook 14 G9 after its IFA 2026 debut. For context, we have already reviewed the ThinkBook 14 G9 IPL with Intel's Panther Lake platform (curr. $1,307 on Amazon). Moreover, we recently put the lightweight ThinkBook 14x through its paces, featuring the Core Ultra 5 226V from Intel's Lunar Lake series.
In comparison, the ThinkBook 14 G9 Q8Y comes exclusively with the Snapdragon X2 Plus (X2P-42-100). Additionally, Lenovo includes 16 GB of LPDDR5X-9523 RAM with all SKUs, as well as M.2 2242 and M.2 2280 SSD slots. On top of that, the 14-inch laptop finds itself with a 50 Wh battery, which Lenovo claims lasts almost 27 hours when playing locally stored 1080p videos at 150 nits.

According to the company's data, this runtime is over 40% longer than the ThinkBook 14 G9 IPL we reviewed earlier this year. Please note that this unit featured a 48 Wh battery. Also, this increase drops to 10% longer runtimes in the ThinkBook 14 G9 Q8Y's favour when Lenovo tested the ThinkBook 14 G9 IPL with a 64 Wh battery.
The ThinkBook 14 G9 Q8Y is only available as a single configuration in the US. Priced at $1,289, this configuration includes a Windows 11 Pro ARM64 licence, a 512 GB SSD and a non-touch display. Meanwhile, other markets have received the option of configuring Windows 11 Home ARM64 or Windows 11 Pro ARM64 licences, as well as a 1 TB SSD and a touchscreen display.
With that said, both display options are IPS panels with 1,920 x 1,200-pixel native resolutions, 60 Hz refresh rates, 400 nits peak brightness, 45% NTSC colour space coverage and anti-glare coatings. Currently, the new ThinkBook 14 G9 Q8Y starts at £1,224 in the UK, €1,403-€1,588 in the Eurozone. Lenovo has not started selling the laptop in Oceania, East Asia or Southeast Asia yet, though.
