Courtesy of an ongoing sale on Lenovo's official US online store, the well-equipped ThinkCentre Neo 50q mini PC with a healthy 32 GB of RAM is now available with an attractive 45% discount.

Lenovo makes a good number of capable mini PCs with good I/O and reliability. The ThinkCentre Neo 50q Gen 5 is one such system, currently available with a sizeable $880 discount bringing its price down to just $1,049.

This variant of the Neo 50q mini PC comes equipped with an Intel Core 5 210H CPU with an 8-core, 12-thread setup consisting of four "Raptor Cove" performance cores and four "Gracemont" efficiency cores.

Lenovo 50q: Slim mini PC with 32 GB RAM and healthy CPU performance

The mini PC comes with 32 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM and a 1 TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD (TLC) housed in an M.2 2280 slot. Another M.2 slot is also present.

In synthetic multithreaded benchmarks, the 45-watt Core 5 210H can easily keep up with a modern 28-watt AMD Ryzen AI 5 435 APU found in many mid-range PCs, commanding a roughly 4% lead in many cases.

However, the ThinkCentre mini PC runs the chip in a lower 35-watt profile, which should have a small but noticeable effect in raw performance.

I/O on offer aboard the ThinkCentre Neo 50q is quite impressive.

For most office-based productivity workloads, the amount of compute on offer should be plenty. That said, heavier workloads might be a hassle for the Neo 50q mini PC, but folks with such intensive workloads aren't really the target demographic.

The Iris Xe G4 iGPU is only good enough for basic GPU-based workloads such as video acceleration, coming in at roughly 62% behind a mid-range Radeon 760M iGPU in terms of overall performance.

The I/O on offer is pretty decent, detailed below:

  • Triple USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, dual USB 2.0 Type-A
  • USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C with PD 3.1
  • HDMI 2.1
  • DisplayPort 1.4
  • 3.5 mm audio jack
  • Punch-out port for DP, VGA, Serial, Ethernet

The Lenovo ThinkCentre Neo 50q measures in at 179 x 36.5 x 182.9 mm, or roughly 7.05 x 1.44 x 7.2 inches with a volume of just around 1 litre.

At its current price, the Neo 50q mini PC definitely brings a lot of value to the table for folks with light-to-moderately intensive workloads, who do not mind paying a small premium for a well-rounded product from a reputed and reliable brand.
