PHP threats, the Binance hack, attacks on municipalities, businesses and public institutions – the internet security situation is becoming increasingly difficult to navigate.
Device manufacturers in particular should therefore make an effort to provide updates for their smartphones and tablets for a long time – after all, customers depend on them to keep their devices secure even after several years.
Lenovo lagged behind somewhat in this regard for a long time. But the manufacturer now seems to have understood that, especially for a premium tablet like the Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 (currently available for US$ 799 at lenovo.com), long update periods are not optional, but something many customers absolutely need.
Security is a must, including for Lenovo
The EU has also already taken action, requiring manufacturers to provide updates for their devices for at least five years after sales end. However, some are not yet complying and apparently prefer to wait and see whether anyone takes action at all. Lenovo initially interpreted the directive somewhat pedantically to mean that updates only had to be available, but by no means had to be fully up to date.
Now the manufacturer finally seems to have seen reason, as the new Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 comes with a very good promise of seven years of updates from launch, meaning it should receive patches until early 2033. It is also set to receive new Android versions up to version 24, bringing new features to your premium tablet.
The Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 is finally very good
This is good news for anyone looking for a new premium tablet beyond the dominant players Apple and Samsung, as it means the Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 can be used securely for many years.
With plenty of power and a very long-lasting battery, that should be possible without any problems.
