Leaker reveals fresh Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro details months before launch
Xiaomi remains almost half a year away from releasing its next flagship smartphones. For context, the company is currently expected to deliver successors to the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro first rather than a follow-up to the range-topping Xiaomi 14 Ultra (curr. $1,552.62 on Amazon). Nonetheless, early details about the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro continue to surface online, principally from the likes of Digital Chat Station.
According to the leaker, Xiaomi has now settled on the primary camera for the Xiaomi 15 Pro, which it will also offer in the smaller Xiaomi 15. For reference, the pair were previously rumoured to contain triple 50 MP rear-facing camera set-ups. However, only the Xiaomi 15 Pro was anticipated to feature a periscope zoom camera, with the Xiaomi 15 settling for a cheaper 3x option instead. Supposedly, Xiaomi has decided to source an unnamed OmniVision sensor for its first next-generation flagships.
Writing on Weibo, Digital Chat Station adds that the sensor will have a 1/1.3-inch optical format, which would be a minor improvement over the 1/1.31-inch equivalent inside the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro. Allegedly, Xiaomi will customise this sensor to distinguish it from its rivals, although the extent of these changes remains unknown for now. Reportedly, both smartphones are in line to receive a new lens coating designed to reduce glare while improving light transmittance. Based on previous rumours, Xiaomi only intends to offer the Xiaomi 15 globally.
