Leaker offers insights into Sony LinkBuds, WF-1000XM6 and WH-1000XM6 releases
Sony released a few audio products this year, including the ULT WEAR (curr. $178 on Amazon). Typically, Sony refreshes its flagship earbuds and headphones biennially, as was the case with the WF-1000XM5 and WH-1000XM5. Considering that the latter debuted in 2022, it had been assumed that a WH-1000XM6 would launch at some point this year.
According to Weibo leaker Zackbucks, this will, in fact, not be the case. Instead, the leaker claims that Sony plans to synchronise the release years of its WH-1000X and WF-1000X series while maintaining a two-year release cycle for the latter. As a result, the WH-1000X becomes somewhat of a casualty, with a three-year gap between the WH-1000XM5 and WH-1000XM6. In other words, neither the WH-1000XM6 nor WF-1000XM6 are said to be ready until 2025.
Specifically, Zackbucks alleges a 1H 2025 release for both devices, although it remains to be seen whether they will arrive simultaneously. In the meantime, the same leaker asserts that Sony will focus on its LinkBuds series with two new models. Purportedly, the pair will serve as direct successors to the LinkBuds and LinkBuds S, which launched with drastically different designs despite their shared series name. Unfortunately, no specifications have leaked yet for these new LinkBuds models, let alone a rough release window.
