Latest evidence of new high-end Samsung Galaxy foldables points to connectivity and charging compromises
We are well into leak season for Samsung's next-generation foldable smartphones. Officially, the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 (curr. $1,399.99 on Amazon) remain Samsung's current foldable smartphones. However, Evan Blass has now shared numerous images in which the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Galaxy Z Fold6 can be made out, just a few days after Samsung Kazakhstan was found to have published an equivalent shot of both devices on its website.
On top of that, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has published initial documentation for both devices. According to the regulatory body, both support Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, as well as Bluetooth LE Audio, NFC and various 5G bands. Neither are Wi-Fi 7 capable though, despite Samsung offering the new connectivity standard on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Nonetheless, the Galaxy Z Fold6 features an ultra-wideband chip (UWB), likely for use with Google's Find My Device network, among other uses.
Furthermore, the FCC reveals that the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Galaxy Z Fold6 maintain 25 W wired and 15 W wireless charging peak wattages, just like their predecessors. Conversely, the former is said to contain a 3,887 mAh battery, an 8% increase of the 3,591 mAh combined capacity of the Galaxy Z Flip5. Currently, Samsung is expected to introduce the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Galaxy Z Fold6 simultaneously on July 10 at its next Galaxy Unpacked event. In the meantime, the company is rumoured to be delivering the Galaxy Watch FE, which will arrive later this month.
